When God sent Jonah to Nineveh to preach to the people, he wanted to show that he is smarter than God so he didn’t go. As God told him to take left, scripture tells us that he turned right. That is what most Christians do today.
Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
To be obedient to God we need to put aside everything that does not please God.
It is sad to note that mordern Christians want to be blessed, yet the things that will bring us blessing, and the things that will move us forward are the very things we don’t want to do.
In reference to Jonah’s end in the bible, we can say that, if we are obedient to God totally, things will work for our good and we will end well.
