History of Ebenezer Congregation, CFC

ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CONGREGATION

The congregation planted by the Accra Newtown Bible Study and Prayer Group (BSPG) held her maiden church service on Sunday the 20th February, 1994 in one o fthe four classrooms released by the Proprietor of the Greenhill international school, Mr Kwabena Kyei for church services. The preacher for that day was the late Rev. Lt. Col. (Rtd) S.O.Y. Adade. 14 people from the CFC Estates, Dome were in attendance. The offertory for that day amounted to 15, 850.00 cedis (currently GHC 1.58). A separate service was also conducted for the children who numbered 45. Their offertory for that say also amounted to 6,500 cedis (currently 0.65p).

CARETAKER COMMITTEE FOR THE CHURCH

The question of who should take charge of the church arose and at an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the Accra Newtown BSPG on 29th February, 1994. Bro. Robertson Osafo offered to take charge of the church. Bro Stephen Nyadu-Bekoe volunteered to assist him and the following members also offered themselves to help: Bro. Samuel Ofori, Bro. Edward Owusu and Sis. Matilda Amankwaa (Now Mrs. Wiafe). After a year of operation, the membership of the caretaker committee was increased to seven, including two CFC Estate members; Mr. J. H. Acquaah and Madam Mary Owusu (deceased). Five JY teachers and five Children’s Service teachers were made to take charge of the two groups respectively.

ELEVATION, NAMING OF THE CONGREGATION AND DEDICATION OF CHOIR ROBES

The CFC Congregation was elevated to a full Congregational Status on Sunday the 9th of November, 2008 by the New Achimota District Minister, late Re. Oduro Awisi and named it EBENEZER CONGREGATION, CFC ESTATES, DOME. He also dedicated the choir robes. Members of the church has since been worshipping in their own chapel building.

FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE CHURCH

The 30th of April, 1995, marked the first anniversary of the Ebenezer Congregation. During the Anniversary, 16 new members were baptized by the then Accra Newtown District Minister, the late Rev. Lt. Col. (Rtd.) S. O. Y. Adade: Adults 11, JY 3 and children 2. The district minister also administered the First Communion Service to 46 Communicants.

FIRST CONFIRMATION

Eight (8) members of the church were the first people to be confirmed by the then Accra Newtown District Minister Rev. J. Apea Asamoahon the 6th December 1998. Interestingly all the members are still worshipping with the church. Some of them hold key positions in the church.

ELECTION OF PRESBYTERS

This was held on 20th October, 2013.The elected Presbyters went through a one day orientation by the Official Town District Minister, Rev. J. Badu sekyere on 24th January, 2014. Rev. R. O. Danso also inducted the elected Presbyters into office on 9th February, 2014. The congregation is presently under the leadership of the following:
