Logos, Achimota College.

On Sunday 22nd April,1996 a small group of Presbyterians, working at the University of Ghana and Achimota School, came together to start a new congregation of the PCG. This new congregation began its meetings in the former school of Administration Block (University of Ghana) at the Achimota School West compound and so it came to be known at the ‘Achimota Administration’ Presbyterian Church.

The opening Hymn of the foundation ceremony was Twi Hymn numbered 193, Ga 230, Ewe 231 (O Yesu Kristo behwe yen), which directly appealed to the Almighty God to lay his hands on the occasion and the task ahead. To announce the existence of the church, Mr. E. K. Antwi (who became the Catechist-in-charge of the church until 2004) and a few members informed Rev. Richter of Accra about the congregation.

The church was them placed under the Adabraka District of PCG, but it was later placed under the Accra New Town District. Barely a year after the establishment of the new congregation, the leader (Mr. S. Y. Adatsi), whom the church always looked upon as their guide and leader left to join another church. The mantle of leadership therefore fell on Mr. E. K. Antwi. As time elapsed and the membership grew, Trinity College (now Trinity Theological Seminary) willingly offered Revs. D. B. Ansong and Amoah to the church. In addition Mr. A.T.T. Dotsi was brought in from Accra by the district Pastor to help the church. During its formative years, church services were held in one of the Achimota School’s classrooms.

In 1981, the Board of Governors of Achimota School approved the church’s application for a piece of land at the current building site to build a church. However, in 1987, the primary department of the Achimota School wrote to inform the church of their intention to build its JHS department on the very plot of land issued to the church by the Board of Governors. However, by God’s intervention, the school rescinded its decision, and the sod-cutting ceremony of the church building as performed by Rev. E. Yirenkyi Addo, the then District Pastor of Accra New Town District on Sunday, 12th March, 1988. The buikding project began with voluntary contributions of 10,000 cedis (now 1 cedi) from each member, harvest incomes and pledges from members, as well as special donations and interest free loan. On Christmas day 1988, the then Moderator of PCG (Rt. Rev D. A. Koranteng) visited the church and performed the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the church to begin. Worshipping in the classroom ceased and worshipping in uncompleted chapel building started in 1992. In 1994, the new chapel building was completed, the official opening and dedication was held on 1st May, 1994 by Rt. D. A. Koranteng, the then Moderator of the PCG.
