Today, marks the 17th day of the forty(40) days of prayer, fasting and alms giving for Spiritual awakening.
Bible text for reflection is Romans 7:19-25
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
Struggling with sin is not failure
The text is not describing the life of an unbeliever nor describing the life of an immature or Carnal Christian but rather describing the life of a matured Christian.
Paul was struggling with something which was at war with him within. Most people see sin as something which is outside but Paul is saying that sin is something inside which we struggle with each day. His struggle was that “whenever I want to do good , evil is right there with me.”
Brethren, as far as you are in your mortal body, you will struggle with sin. Being a believer does not mean the struggle of sin is over. It will go on 24/7.
BELIEVERS are on daily bases struggling with KNOWING & DOING; We know the right thing but we still do the wrong thing. KNOWLEDGE WILL NEVER SAVE ANYONE.
Let’s confess with Paul to say that ” WHAT A WRETCHED MAN I AM! WHO WILL RESCUE ME FROM THE STRUGGLE THAT IS SUBJECT TO DEATH?
GOD wants You and I to struggle with sin so that in our struggle we are stripped of our self-righteous and self-reliance and begin to trust in God and God alone. Struggling with sin does not make us failures as a Christian.
May God be our helper in our Christian journey for us to apply our knowledge of His word to our daily lives.
